Building Our Future

St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Euless, TX

FAQ

What are we building?

We are building a traditional Byzantine-style church on the site of the existing Paulos Center building that will accommodate more than 250 people in a magnificent liturgical space. To do this we must first build an addition to the current church/hall building to replace the Paulos Center classrooms and offices. When the new church is completed we will expand the hall into the space occupied by the church today. Together, these are the projects that constitute the 2009 Capital Development Program.

Why are we building?

We are given a wonderful opportunity today to serve the Lord in a new and meaningful way. St. John the Baptist community of faith is reaching a point where our existing facilities cannot accommodate us properly in the Church, Sunday School or Fellowship Hall. Our growing parish needs new space so its ministry can fulfill its true potential in Christ: a New Church with traditional architecture fitting for the full expression of our Orthodox worship, more classrooms for the growing Sunday School and more capacity for our Fellowship Hall. Additional growth is anticipated and that is why expansion of the hall space is included in the development program.

How did we get here?

A Parish General Assembly in early 2009 approved design of the new church to enhance the ecclesiastical environment and sense of holy space beyond what is possible in our current multipurpose building. This followed an earlier decision to remain and develop Parish facilities at our permanent Euless site as opposed to relocating to another location in NE Tarrant County.

When will we occupy the new church?

Under the current program schedule, the goal is to occupy the new church just before Easter in 2011. This allows for replacement of the Paulos Center and demolition of the existing Paulos Center building in early 2010 before construction of the new church can begin.

How much will the new church cost?

Based on early estimates of cost the goal of the Capital Campaign Committee is to raise $2,400,000 for the construction of the facilities development program and the Building Committee is working to achieve that budget goal.

How will we pay for it?

Construction costs will be met through the pledge commitments and corresponding donations of parishioners during a three-year Capital Campaign. We hope past benefactors will recognize the fruits of their support during the early years of the Parish and will find it pleasing to help us build a permanent Orthodox church edifice on our property.

What is a capital campaign?

A Capital Campaign is a church project that seeks pledged donations from parishioners and others to be exclusively used in paying for a major construction program.

Will I be pressured to make a commitment pledge?

No. Participation in the campaign and how much you give is entirely up to you. All parishioners and friends of the Parish will be given the opportunity to contribute if they wish to do so.

How may I prepare to participate?

Allow Christ to guide your heart through prayer. Read Scripture passages that speak about giving, such as Corinthians 16:2, Proverbs 11:25, Proverbs 3:5-9, 2 Corinthians 8:1-21, Acts of the Apostles 20:35, the Gospel according to Saint Luke 6:38, and Psalm 116:12-19.

How long will my commitment be?

You are asked to make a three-year commitment to be paid in three yearly increments. You may pay in equal amounts each year or in increments of your own choosing including full payment in the first year.

When are we expected to give the amount pledged?

Commitment cards will be turned in on Commitment Sunday, December 13, 2009. First year payments will begin to be received on the following Sunday, December 20th. Those who would like the maximum tax benefit from their donations in 2009 will consider giving as much as possible by December 31, 2009.

If I can’t give a large amount, does my commitment really matter?

Absolutely! All commitments matter, regardless of amount, because we all participate according to our ability. God appreciates the sacrifice not the quantity (see Luke 21:1-4.) and multiplies our giving through His grace. Many of you are aware of the true mysteries in which God has come to the aid of our Parish in the past. Our goal is to achieve 100% participation by every parishioner so that everyone can share and rejoice in our collective achievement for the glory of God.

What forms of contributions will be accepted?

Contributions in payment of commitments can be made by cash, check or credit card. All contributions will be deposited in a special interest bearing bank account reserved exclusively for the building project. For other types of contributions (i.e. transference of title to marketable stocks, bonds, real estate, etc.) please consult with the Capital Campaign Committee.

May I update my commitment after Commitment Sunday?

Yes. You may update your commitment at any time.

Do I have to be a church member to participate in the capital campaign?

No. Participation in the campaign is a personal decision for each and any person who is interested in supporting the Parish of St. John the Baptist. Anyone may contribute to God’s work in our church.

Who will know of my commitment?

All commitments will be kept strictly confidential. Only a few select and trusted persons responsible for managing the finances of the Capital Campaign will know, of necessity, in order to rally the commitment total and manage cash flows in payment of commitments and construction outlays during the three year period of the campaign.
